Mth 287 Mathematical Structures

An important goal of this course is to develop students ability to think abstractly. This requires that students learn to use logically valid forms of argument, to avoid common logical errors, to understand what it means to reason from definitions, and to know how to use both direct and indirect arguments to derive new results from those already known to be true. We also cover the topics of probability, combinations and permutations. Discrete Mathematics is a required sophomore level course for students majoring in computer science or computer engineering. This course will benefit any student interested in computer programming as well as those interested in logic.
