  • Walt Whitman Quarterly Review 1988-2005. Founded in 1983 as a successor to the Walt Whitman Review, which succeeded the Walt Whitman Newsletter. There are essays about Whitman, his influence, his cultural contexts, his life, and his work. Search the index to find specific articles on "Song of Myself." If we do not have the issue for the article you need, we can obtain a copy of the article through interlibrary loan.

  • American Transcendentalism Web - This is a web study text of "Song of Myself" prepared by Virginia Commonwealth University. Click on highlighted words and phrases within the text to see an interpretation of the poem.

  • Perspectives in American Literature - Click on "Song of Myself" to find the section that analyzes the poem. The author is a professor at California State University.

  • Whitman's Manuscript Drafts - Ed Folsom of the University of Iowa brings together all surviving manuscript drafts of the poem, "Song of Myself." You will see images of original documents that show the writer's work in progress.

  • Walt Whitman & Slavery in "Song of Myself" - This site invites users to consider Whitman's treatment of race and slavery in "Song of Myself" and focuses in particular on two fugitive slave passages. There are several texts so that you can compare Whitman's imaginative account of a runaway slave to contemporary accounts by other authors, including several African American fugitives themselves. Critical positions samples the broad ranging and intense debate over Whitman's depiction of African Americans.
