General Databases

These databases are available under the Databases link from the Brown Library Home Page.

  • Blackwell Synergy- Full-text journal articles in a wide variety of academic subjects. It is possible to narrow your search to a particular subject group such as ecology or plant science.
  • EBSCO - This is the place to start for general research. This group of databases includes: Academic Search Complete, Business Source Complete, Computers & Applied Sciences Complete, CINAHL, PsycARTCLES, ERIC, Environment Complete, and more. Articles may be full-text, abstracts, or citations.
  • JSTOR: Arts & Sciences Collection I - Full-text journal articles in a wide variety of academic subjects. While most library databases begin periodical coverage in the early 1980's, JSTOR provides complete back-runs of journals sometimes going back to the early 1900's. JSTOR does not include current articles. See Project Muse.
  • Project Muse - Current full-text journal articles in a wide variety of academic subjects. Includes current issues for many JSTOR titles.

Science Databases
Except for JSTOR, find these databases under the VIVA link on the databases page.

  • Access Science - McGraw-Hill, Encyclopedia of Science and Technology
  • BioOne Journals - Full-text journal articles in bioscience.
  • Cambridge Scientific Abstracts - This is a set of databases in the sciences including the Biological Sciences, Biology Digest and Plant Science databases. These databases include abstracts only; meaning there are no full-text articles. However, we can order articles for you through interlibrary loan.
  • JSTOR: Ecology & Botany - A full-text journal database which expands upon the JSTOR: Arts & Sciences Collection by adding 29 new titles in ecology, biology, botany and plant sciences. Your JSTOR search will include both collections.
  • Science- Includes full-text of Science back to 1996. While the database includes indexing back to 1880, we do not have a subscription to the full-text for those years. However, we do have hard copy issues back to 1938 and can order older issues through interlibrary loan. Also, Science is covered full-text back to 1983 in the Gale databases.
