  • World News Digest - This full-text database, published by Facts on File, includes original news articles published from 1940 to the present day. You may be able to use this database if your teacher asks you to find periodical articles on microfilm.
  • New York Times Article Archive 1851-Present. Search the index for all years. Articles are free from 1851-1922 (public domain) and from 1987-Present.

Newspapers
The microfilm and microfilm printer are temporarily located at the back of the reference department. Please ask at the desk for help.

  • New York Times: 1851-1985 (film) and 1986-2002 (fiche)
  • Roanoke Times & World News - The Roanoke Times is covered in the Factiva database from 1990 to the present. For older issues of the Roanoke Times and other various local newspapers, go to the Virginia Room of the Roanoke City Public Library on Jefferson Street.

These are general interest news magazines. They are located in the reference department on the main floor. They are arranged in alphabetical order by title. Most of the older titles are available on microfilm and are located in the microfilm room.
