Periodical Articles
This is a list of periodical titles in literature. Some of these are available in Brown Library and some are available in the electronic databases.

Databases

These databases are available under the Databases link from the Brown Library Home Page. They cover articles from scholarly journals and can focus on particular themes in an author's work.

  • EBSCO - This is the place to start for general research. This group of databases includes: Academic Search Complete, Business Source Complete, Computers & Applied Sciences Complete, CINAHL, PsycARTCLES, ERIC, and more. Articles may be full-text, abstracts, or citations.
  • Literature Resources from Gale - English 112 students start here. Focus on literary biography and criticism. Includes comprehensive information from the well known print sources; Contemporary Authors and Dictionary of Literary Biography. Also includes selected text from other Gale publications, such as Contemporary Literary Criticism, Nineteenth Literature Criticism, Short Story Criticism and much more. Added features include an encyclopedia of literature, a literary timeline, and a research guide.
  • JSTOR - Focus on core research journals in a wide variety of academic disciplines. While most library databases begin periodical coverage in the early 1980's, JSTOR provides complete back-runs of journals sometimes going back to the early 1900's.

Web Sites
I found these web sites by doing a Google search and limiting the domain name to find only educational, organizational or .net sites. To do this yourself, type your search words and then the word, site:net or site:org or site:edu.

  • Lewis Carroll Home Page - Produced by the Lewis Carroll Society of North America. Biography, Bibliography, Criticism, Electronic Texts.
  • Lewis Carroll - Produced by the Victorian Web. Includes economic, political and social contexts. Also includes biography, themes and imagery.
  • Looking for Lewis Carroll - Produced by the Association for New Lewis Carroll Studies.
  • Lewis Carroll Society of the UK - Includes original articles such as the "White Stone," "Illuminated Snark," "Mistaken Identity," and "Signposts."

Google Search Tips
1. Type the title of the work or name of the author in quotation marks. The punctuation marks keep the words together as a phrase.
2. Combine that with your topic.
3. Don't worry about capitalization or punctuation.
