A collection of links to sites for

encyclopedias, handbooks, and more.
Search Engines
Search engines allow you to find specific
keywords and phrases on the Internet. Of all the
search tools presented here, search engines give
you the most comprehensive results. A search
engine such as Google represents over two
billion web pages. Because the sites are not
evaluated however, you will receive a mixed bag
of results.
Subject
Directories
Subject directories are collections of Internet
sites organized by subject and constructed by
humans, rather than by the automated computer
programs used to create search engines. Subject
directories do not attempt to cover the entire
web, just a selected portion of it. Directories
typically cover several thousand to over a
million web pages for sites such as Yahoo and
About.com.
Topic
Guides:
The topic guides presented here were
developed by librarians of the Virginia
Community College System and represent a small
group of websites carefully evaluated for
content, authority and purpose. Some of the many
topics covered are: art, hot topics, social
issues and statistics.
