Brown Library currently subscribes to over 170 periodical titles in hard copy format. This includes magazines, journals and newspapers. In addition to our current subscriptions we also have back issues of several hundred more titles.

Periodicals in Brown Library are available in paper, microfiche, and microfilm. These are all located on the main floor in the reference department. Periodicals in paper format are arranged alphabetically by title. Microfilm is kept in the microform room, while microfiche is kept behind the reference desk. Brown Library is also a member of the VIVA consortium, which provides online databases like Gale Group, Factiva, Project Muse, and EBSCO. These databases cover a wide variety of sources, many of which are full-text. See VIVA Full-Text for a list of periodicals covered.

In addition to the VIVA databases, Brown Library also has an independent subscription to JSTOR: Arts & Sciences and JSTOR: Ecology & Botany. Visit these two links to see a list of periodicals covered.

Traditionally, periodicals are kept in reference and do not check out. We are providing a new service this year by allowing certain periodicals to check out. Please click on Check out Magazines for more information.
