General Encyclopedias

  • Encyclopaedia Britannica Online - Includes Merriam-Webster's Collegiate Dictionary and Thesaurus. Other features include a world atlas, timeline, and the Year in Review.
  • The Columbia Encyclopedia - This is a link to Bartleby.com, a reference site to several electronic texts. Some reference works included are: Columbia Gazetteer, American Heritage Dictionary, Gray's Anatomy and Roget's Thesaurus. In addition to reference books, this site also covers works of fiction and poetry. For example, you can find works by William Shakespeare, Virginia Woolf and  Robert Frost. Too many great books to list!

Subject Encyclopedias

  • Gale Virtual Reference Library - Includes major subject encyclopedias published by Gale, such as Gale Encyclopedia of Psychology and Gale Encyclopedia of Nursing and Allied Health. There are a few subject encyclopedias published independently of Gale, such as Contemporary Novelists, and Encyclopedia of Popular Culture.
