Interlibrary Loan
Faith Janney is your interlibrary loan librarian. You may email her at
fjanney@vw.vccs.edu or call her at
540-857-6332.
The purpose of interlibrary loan is to allow you to obtain books,
journal articles and other materials that are not available in Brown Library. We
will request the item you need from another library that owns it. Although the
request process is electronic, delivery is not. Please make your request well in
advance of when the item is needed. Please note: this service is for students
and staff of Virginia Western Community College. Your status will be verified
before your request is submitted.
Please make sure we do not own the
item you need before requesting it through interlibrary loan. When you are
finished click the back button in your browser to return to this
page.
You will be contacted when your request comes in and
you may then pick it up at the reference desk on the main floor of Brown
Library. If you live outside of the Roanoke Valley area and do not take
classes on campus, you may choose to have your request mailed to you. Please let
us know. Please also keep in mind that the postal service is slow and it may be
faster to pick up the item in person.
Either way, you are responsible for returning books
to Brown Library after you have used them. You may return books in person, or
you may mail them back at your own expense. If you decide to mail them back,
please be aware that you are responsible for replacement charges should the book
become lost in the mail.
Mail books back to the address below:
Brown Library
Virginia Western Community College
PO Box 40012
Roanoke, VA 24022-0012
Alternatively, you may come to the library yourself
and drop off the books. Books can be returned at any time, day or night, because
the library has an outside book return in the wall to the left as you approach
the main doors as well as a mailbox-like return along the curb across from the
back of the bookstore. Also, if you are taking courses in Franklin County, you are welcome
to drop books off at the Franklin Workforce Center at 70 Wray Street, Rocky
Mount (across the road from the Franklin County High School). If you are taking
courses at the Greenfield Education and Training Center in Botetourt County, you
may leave books in that building at the reception desk which is staffed day and
night. At the Roanoke Higher Education Center downtown you may turn in books at
the library, which is in room 216 on the second floor of that building. At any
of these places, be sure to hand books to a staff member—do not just leave them
on a desk. Virginia Western employees who regularly travel between these sites
and the VWCC campus will assume responsibility for getting the books back to us.
